Composting with bokashi (a microbial compost accelerator):
Bokashi is a Japanese word meaning "fermented organic matter" and is made from wheat bran, molasses, filtered water, and EM-1 and resembles cereal. See photos. It is made locally in Great Falls, MT. and has many beneficial uses.
In our cold composting method, bokashi is used as an accelerant or inoculant to speed up the transformation of food waste into high nutrient soil. The live microbes in bokashi serve to ferment or pickle the food waste, which turns to soil with the addition of a carbon or "brown matter" substance.
Cold composting with bokashi is a no-turn, no-odor, relatively fast composting process.
