Our compost bins are made from recycled shipping pallets that are donated to us by various businesses. Inside the bins we use an insulating material (scrap foam insulation or straw), chicken wire, and black visqueen. The compost can be covered with a piece of scrap carpet, easily obtainable from one of the carpet stores in town.
We also have bins with lids. The lids are not insulated, but you can still compost in the cold weather by keeping a piece of visqueen and carpet over your compost inside the box.
If you, your business, your school, your church, want to begin cold composting, please give us a call (406-868-2359) and we'll get you started.
We build 3 different sizes of bins:
- Residential bins are 3'x3'x2.5'. They are insulated and delivered (in Great Falls). We sell them for $30 or $45 with a lid. See flyer for more information and call or email Captain Compost to place your order.
- School bins are 10'x4'x4' and have locking lids.
- The Great Falls Food Bank compost bins are the largest at 30'x4'x4'.
